How the fee reaches your bill

A resort fee is a mandatory charge per night that the hotel sets and collects itself, usually at check-in. It is not a government tax, and it is charged whether or not you use anything it covers. Some hotels call it a destination, facility or amenity fee; the table uses the hotel's own word.

Because the hotel takes it at the desk, it can sit outside the total a booking site quotes. We put it in the total, and we say which part we charge and which part the hotel collects, because only one of those is ours to take.

Where a hotel says tax is charged on the fee, the row says so; where it says nothing, the row says nothing.

Since May 12, 2025, the FTC's rule on unfair fees (16 CFR Part 464) has required the total price a seller shows to include mandatory fees. Government taxes may still be left out of it, and the rule governs what a seller displays, not what a hotel may charge.
