Resort fee calculator: what a hotel's mandatory fee adds to your stay

This works out what a hotel's mandatory fee adds to a stay, using the fee each hotel states on its own website, with the date we read it. It is not a quote: the room rate is not here, and the taxes on the room are not included.

Where a hotel says tax is charged on the fee, that is added for Las Vegas at 13.38% and shown as “plus tax as the hotel states” anywhere else, because we have not measured the rate there and will not guess it. The Las Vegas rate is one rate applied to every hotel there, not read off each hotel's page, and conditions a page attaches to its fee — a waiver for a long stay, say — are not applied. Are resort fees per person or per room?

Per room, per night, as the hotels in this dataset state them. The fee is a nightly charge on the room whoever is in it, so two people pay the same as one and it does not scale with the party. The calculator multiplies the nightly figure by the nights and nothing else. What is a resort fee, and why is it not in the price? →

Is the resort fee taxed?

Where the hotel says so. In Las Vegas the calculator adds it at 13.38%, one rate applied to every hotel whose page says the fee is taxed; a hotel whose own page gives a different rate charges that one at the desk. Elsewhere, a hotel that says the fee is taxed gets the words "plus tax as the hotel states" and no number, because we hold no measured rate for those cities and a percentage nobody measured would be a guess. A hotel whose page does not mention tax on the fee is shown as "tax not stated", and the total is a floor.

Can I refuse to pay a resort fee?

Not where one is charged. The hotel treats it as a condition of the stay and collects it at the desk whether or not you use anything it covers, and a booking site cannot waive a charge the hotel takes itself. The exceptions are the ones a hotel writes on its own page, such as a waiver for a long stay, and the calculator does not apply them. The reliable way to avoid a resort fee is to choose a hotel that does not charge one; the city pages list the hotels whose own sites state none. Does the fee change by booking site?

Not as a rule. The fee is the hotel's charge, not the booking site's, so the hotel collects it whichever site sold the room, unless its own page says otherwise, such as a waiver for booking direct. What changes is whether you were told: measured on 16 September 2026, of 40 Las Vegas hotels priced through the wholesale rate feed we buy from, 36 carried a fee on some rate plans and 32 of those had other rate plans that left it out entirely.
