Read on the hotels’ own pages through 20 September 2026. A hotel counts as Hilton’s when its name carries a Hilton brand or its fee was read on hilton.com, so of the 76 that answered, 14 are vacation clubs under a Hilton name. Another 233 Hilton hotels in our data could not be confirmed either way; a page we could not read says nothing, so they are in no figure here.
What Hilton’s sentence says
The 29 sentences are the same word for word but for the amount, across 13 cities. Read it in three parts.
- “Price includes” — the price shown beside it on the hotel’s page already has the charge in it.
- “USD mandatory charge per night” — a dollar amount, charged every night of the stay. Multiply it by your nights, or let the calculator do it.
- “but excludes taxes and government charges” — the price, charge included, is before tax. We record all 29 as tax added on top.
Mandatory charge or resort charge: one word apart
38 more Hilton hotels print the same sentence with “resort charge” where the others say “mandatory charge”: from $15.00 to $60.00 a night (median $35.00), before tax. The word is the only difference; both sentences say the price includes the charge and leaves out tax. Of those, 14 are vacation clubs under a Hilton name.

Why it is listed as a mandatory charge, not a resort fee
Because that is what the sentence calls it. This site records a fee under the name the hotel uses, and “resort fee” is not in the sentence. The names these hotels’ pages give the charge are “Mandatory charge” (16 hotels), “Daily Mandatory Destination Charge” (7 hotels), “Destination charge” (3 hotels), “Daily Mandatory Charge” (2 hotels), “Mandatory Destination Charge” (1 hotel). None of them is “resort fee”, and none is renamed one here.
13 of the 29 list what the charge pays for on the page we read; the other 16 list nothing there. A page that lists nothing has not said the charge buys nothing, and an item it does list is not a reason to pay it: the charge is the same whether or not you use any of it.
In what it costs you, the name changes nothing. A charge you cannot decline, per night, before tax, is part of the price of the room whatever it is called — the point destination fee, facility fee, resort fee makes about the other names.
