Of the 40 Las Vegas hotels we checked against their own websites (through 17 September 2026), 28 state a mandatory fee, 1 states that it charges none, and 11 are not confirmed on the hotel’s site either way. The median stated fee is $49.98 a night before tax, and stated fees run from $10.00 to $55.00.

The tax on the fee
Of the 28 hotels we checked that state a fee, 25 say tax is added on top of it, and 2 do not say either way. SAHARA Las Vegas states the rate as 13.38% on its own page, and we use that one rate for every Las Vegas hotel that says tax is added. At the median stated fee, $49.98 a night becomes $56.67 with the tax, and $170.01 over 3 nights.
Tax is not a hidden charge. It is a government charge outside the headline rate, and the FTC’s fee rule lets a seller show it separately. The fee is the part that was moved out of the price; the tax follows it. We show both and say which is which.
Strip, downtown, off-Strip
We do not say which part of town charges more, because nothing we recorded can tell us. A row carries at most a street address, and nothing that places a hotel on the Strip, downtown or anywhere else. Drawing that line ourselves would be a claim the rows do not make. The fee is what reaches your bill, and the lists above are sorted by it.
How to avoid it, or pay less
Choose from the no-fee list. 1 hotel we checked states on its own website that it charges none, and its row links the page that says so. That is the only sure way to pay nothing.
Know it before you book, not at the desk. The hotel collects the fee separately from whatever the booking site charged your card, so a total that looked complete can be short by the fee and its tax. The hotel’s own page is the source, and the calculator totals it for your dates.
Switching booking sites does not escape it. The hotel charges the fee whichever site sold the room; switching hotels is what changes it.
The same room, two prices
We measured this on 16 September 2026. Of 40 Las Vegas hotels priced for a 3-night stay, 36 returned a resort fee on at least one rate plan, and at 32 of those another rate plan for the same hotel left it out. The median fee left out was $119.99 over the stay. A sort by price puts the plan without the fee first, so one site’s “cheapest” can be another site’s price with the fee taken out. - Not where the hotel charges one. It is a condition of the stay, the hotel collects it itself, and the site that sold you the room cannot waive it. If it was not in the price you were shown, that is a problem with the seller’s display, and the hotel will still collect the fee. The way to avoid it is to choose a hotel that states it charges none, before booking.
