Hotels on our resort-fee city pages whose check-in listing with our supplier we read.
A listing counts as stating a hold when a sentence about a deposit or incidentals names a hold, a deposit or an authorization, or gives an amount. It does not count when that sentence says one may be required, taken or placed; when the deposit is taken at booking or as a prepayment; when it is for a pet, a safe or a group, or will be reversed; or when it asks you to show a card for incidentals without naming a hold, a deposit or an amount.
Incidental and damage holds, by amount
The listings that give an amount, each in its own words: amounts per night first, then any per stay, then those that do not say which, largest first in each. Where a listing limits the hold to some guests, or says when the money comes back, its sentence says so.

Questions people ask
- Which hotels do not take an incidental deposit?
- We cannot name any: no listing we read says the hotel takes no deposit or hold. The listings that give an amount are above, in their own words.
- Is an incidental deposit the same as a resort fee?
- No. A resort fee is a charge the hotel’s own website states. A deposit or hold is money the hotel’s listing with our supplier says is held or taken for incidentals or damage; the sentences above say when it comes back, where the listing says so.
